Fuze The Mc - ATLienated

Producer:
Just Plain Jones
Album:
Legend Of A King

Though Atlanta has arguably produced more enduring hip-hop talent in the past 15 years than any other city on the map, there are still those who believe “Southern rap” and “lyricism” don’t belong in the same sentence. Is it any wonder that, as an up-and-comer just as concerned with his pen game as his club appeal, Fuze the Mc feels a little ATLienated in the game? A standout off his recently-released full-length, this head-nodding cut finds Just Plain Jones serving up a bouncy, Outkast-sampled beat to back Fuze as he chides those who fall prey to music-game stereotypes: “They say lyricists from the South are enigma / So I’m switchin’ up the flow and the stigma/ Y’all done forgot about T.I.P. / Outkast, Ludacris; they wanna see I.D from me / They say I can’t be from the ATL / Cause my flow and my words are like way too real…” When he’s not celebrating the Dirty South’s rich music scene, he takes a moment to dispel a few more serious and damaging preconceptions about race and crime in his hometown (“...where the whites push more than the darks do.”). As insightful as it is bass-bumping, this joint is one of many quality cuts to be found on Legend of a King, out now at Fuze’s official site.
