Gee Watts - 199x (Sixteen Nineteen)
Back in March, Gee Watts made his Booth debut on the Kendrick Lamar-assisted Watts R.I.O.T. Of course, the emcee has his own distinct approach, but a little bit of K. Dot certainly has worn off on him on 199x (Sixteen Nineteen). Watts’ control of the mic and ability to change pace over the powerful and ever-evolving production work of Mike Hurst (with supporting vocals from Navé and MiMi Nichole) is very Kendrick-esque. Gee showcases his individually with a raspy, deep flow that makes his substantive, thoughtful lyrics really stick to your ears. Each well-executed line feels more significant and important than the previous one; hopefully a little bit of Gee rubbed of on Kendrick too! 199x (Sixteen Nineteen) is the title track off the artist’s next project, due out in 2014.
