Gilbere Forte’ - Born in ‘87

Eyes of Veritas

Gilbere Forte’s built up such a reputation for eclecticism in the Booth that my habit of remarking on his unpredictability whenever he drops a new record has, in itself, become kinda predictable. For his latest trick, the Philly buzzmaker confounds expectations yet again by doing… the expected. That is to say, mixtape freestyle Born in ‘87 is exactly the kind of lyrically scorching, old school-informed banger that heads might imagine coming from a prodigiously-talented East Coast up-and-comer. Don Cannon mans the boards here, serving up an exultant, brass fueled beat as Forte delivers the purest, rawest showcase of his mic skills yet. The freestyle series alum‘s larger-than-life verses find him repping the City of Brotherly Love, slinging barbs at anonymous rivals, and riffling through his vast library of cultural allusions; he even manages to incorporate a timely shout-out to Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. (Happy MLK Day, everyone!) If this head-nodding lyrical free-for-all leaves you craving more, keep it locked for release details on EP-turned-street album Eyes of Vertias, “coming soon.”
