It’s been said many times before, but it bears repeating: it’s a Cold World out there for a hustler. In contrast to his last feature, sugary single I Get Doe, this compilation EP inclusion finds Glasses Malone returning to his core subject matter: gritty stories from the streets. Don Juan Cartel‘s string/choral accompaniment sets an appropriately somber mood as the West Coast mainstay offers cold comfort to those struggling to survive, encouraging them to “Get doe like your whole life depended on it.” As well as lending his gruff sung vocals on the hook, the usually girl-crazy RaSun showcases a darker side of his musical persona on the second verse, expressing the fatalistic sentiment: “It’s only just a matter of time; now or later everyone reach the end of the line.” Those digging this bleak ode to the grind should keep it locked for the latest on the Lee “The Mayor” Masterson-presented Old Money EP (coming soon), as well as G. Malone’s own long-delayed Beach Cruiser LP (keep your fingers crossed).
