Just how street is Brooklyn rapper Haffa? Well, let’s just say that if he were any more street, his clothes would be covered in tire treads. As evidence, I present So Gully, the first official leak off the Booth newcomer’s forthcoming mixtape. Rapper/producer Scram Jones mans the boards on this gritty track, borrowing a vocal sample from 50 Cent‘s Disco Inferno to serve as the centerpiece of his tense, percussion-synth beat. For his part, Haffa comes with aggressive flows to match Scram’s grimy boardwork, peppering his hard-nosed bars with polysyllabic rhymes: “There’s a war goin’ on outside, no man is safe from / so I keep a bulletproof and a space gun / and I emerge from the jungle where the apes hung…” Does this hood-certified up-and-comer have what it takes to hustle his way to the top of the game? Speculation is welcome, but we won’t know for sure till March 12, when The Cookup (presented by Scram) hits the ‘net.
