Calm down, calm down – Booth favorite (and recent “In the Mix” interview subject) J The S hasn’t switched up his game to appeal to the Tea Party crowd. On the contrary, Patriot finds the Boston representative in typically defiant, paranoid and lyrically fresh form. Flowing over Blaze P‘s piano-led instrumental, the rapper says what so many of us have been thinking about the current situation in D.C. (“Republicans are devils, Democrats got no balls”) and offers some words of wisdom well worth heeding: “Don’t cooperate with authority, be your own man, don’t follow the majority.” Singer P-Dub jumps on board to contribute some layered harmonies on the chorus, adding a poppier vibe to balance out the headliner’s revolutionary rhetoric. Though recorded during the sessions for hotly-anticipated full-length The Last Days (coming soon), Patriot ultimately made neither the album nor Jake’s recent, Booth-sponsored Wish You Were Here mixtape (available here for streaming and free download). Should it have made the cut? I’ll leave it to you to decide.
