Jack Splash ft. Lupe Fiasco - Flashback
When Jack Splash introduced himself to the Booth with Missy Elliot/Jazmine Sullivan collabo I Could Have Loved You, reader reactions were all over the board—while the consensus was that the Miami native’s style was “weird,” “out of the box,” and even a little “bizarre,” there was some disagreement as to whether that was a good or a bad thing. Personally, I love weird, and those who share my enthusiasm for out-of-the-ordinary sounds will be happy to hear that this new feature is about as left-of-center as you can get without falling off the map. On Flashback, Splash does double-duty, showcasing his Prince-ly falsetto over a self-produced beat pairing funk guitar with a bouncy, syncopated rhythm, all tied together with a glittering piano run. To my ears, it’s pretty damned catchy, but even if the genre-bending groove isn’t your cup of tea, it’s hard to argue with the Booth appeal of Chi-town phenom Lupe Fiasco‘s energetic guest bars.
