On Q.U.E.E.N., the lead single off her sophomore studio album, Janelle Monáe was fixing to rule the world (with a little help from guest vocalist Erykah Badu). Now it seems she’s more interested in destroying it. Unsurprisingly, though, the vision of the end she describes on freshly-released follow-up single Dance Apocalyptic is a little more fun than your standard, Book of Revelation-inspired rendition; instead of political cataclysms and many-headed beats, her take on Armageddon features rock-n-roll zombies and allergenic housepets. Wonder & Lightning provide a sprightly, guitar-driven backdrop for Monáe’s catchy, slyly subversive verses and chorus. The Electric Lady is slated to hit record stores and online retailers Tuesday, September 10. In the meantime, keep your browsers locked for further song releases off the highly-anticipated set.
