Jared Evan - Ice Cream (unCOVERED)

Jared Evan

Jared Evan is many things – a Zone 4/Interscope signee, a DJBooth Freestyle alum, one hell of a good interview subject – but first and foremost he’s consistent. Over the last year it’s hard to remember a month that’s gone by without a new Evan song coming through our inboxes and we can now say the same for August with the release of Ice Cream (unCovered). Don’t worry, Evan isn’t paying homage to Gucci Mane’s face ink, instead he’s interpolating Wu-Tang’s classic money making anthem. His work behind the boards here is mellow, lightly distorted and softly experimental, humming in the background and only barely climbing on the chorus. He enhances that mood on the vocals, delivering his rewind-worthy lines through what sounds like a cell phone with bad reception, giving Ice Cream a melted (get it?) and vaguely haunting quality. Cash may rule everything around us, but genre-bending hip-hop clearly rules everything around Evan. No release date yet for his upcoming unCOVERED album, so in the meantime why not stream and download his Back and Fourth album right here on DJBooth?
