Jaymes Young - Habits Of My Heart (Sufjan Stevens Remake)

None (Promo Single)

Hip-hop and Sufjan Stevens (and indie rock, in general, for that matter) have always been strange bedfellows. Every so often a DJBooth-approved artist will stretch the boundaries of their genre and grab some inspiration from the talented crooner; add Jaymes Young to the list. His latest promo single, Habits Of My Heart, draws some serious inspiration from Stevens’ Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois. While he manages to grab the beautiful, pained vibe of the original, the Los Angeles-based artist put’s a unique spin on the track, executing original lyrics and a more pop-infused style thanks to a strong (self-produced) synth beat that envelops the original sample. This effort is strictly for sh*ts and giggles, but if you’re fiending for more from the intoxicating young crooner check out his 2013, Booth-acclaimed album, Dark Star.
