UPDATE: Click “Watch Video” for the brand new visuals to Kill Screen.

In classic arcade titles like Donkey Kong, the only “end” to the game is when you run out of quarters—or that’s how it was intended to work. In reality, a player skilled enough to keep it up for hours on end will eventually reach a Kill Screen, at which point the game becomes unplayable. Inspired in part by gamers’ efforts to achieve this goal in documentary film The King of Kong, Jean Grae uses the concept to illustrate her mastery of the rap game on the lead single off her Gotham Down LP.  Here, the New York City underground mainstay’s own relentless percussion and tinny synths convey a sense of rising tension as delivers deliver bar after bar of aggressive lyrical fire. Neither Gotham Down nor Grae’s other forthcoming full-length, Cake Or Death, have received a drop date just yet, but fans can keep it locked for release details on both, as well as all the latest tunes.
