Jesse Boykins III - Plain

Producer:
Machinedrum
Album:

Of the many songs Jesse Boykins III has had featured on our pages, not one of them could fairly be described as “Plain;” without fail, the neo-soul buzzmaker brings something fresh, inspiring and unpredictable to the table. Despite its unexciting title, his latest effort is every bit as unique as we’ve come to expect from the unsigned artist—if not more. How many times have you heard an R&B singer croon soulfully about his lack of feelings for a certain woman? Over Machinedrum‘s driving music-box beat, a masterwork of understated catchiness, he sings, “Our kisses are never hot, never cold / Thought you were the one, you were just her mold.” A simple but appealing video by Harrison Boyce accompanies the cut. Fans will be able to find Plain, the previously-featured Amen Awoman and much more on Boykins’s Love Apparatus LP, due out in April.
