Joell Ortiz & Novel ft. Bun B & Tech N9ne - Night Train (Remix)

Producer:
G Tek
Album:
Unreleased

Back in the day—the late 19th Century, that is—grueling hours forced railway engineers, conductors, brakemen and other workers to fight a constant battle against fatigue, with thousands of deaths (and tens of thousands of injuries) resulting annually. While I’m sure circumstances aren’t quite so dire for Novel and Joell Ortiz, one can imagine the strain they’ve been under, “workin’ past midnight on that Night Train.” Mercifully, the official remix of this unreleased joint (originally featured back in October of 2010) finds a few equally diligent collaborators lending a hand to lighten the load. Joining the headliners over G Tek‘s classic, bluesy boardwork (retained from the original along with Novel’s smooth chorus), UGK alumnus Bun B heads off the pack with with a weary meditation on his grind, and Tech N9ne switches things up on the middle, delivering an unusually laid-back (though engaging) history lesson on his early career and the advent of Strange Music. Though this poignant jam isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, those digging it can hear more on Novel and Ortiz’ Defying the Predictable mixtape, released last year via DJBooth.net.
