Jordan Bratton - The Grey

Though the music industry loves to sort artists into convenient boxes, there will always be those who fall into The Grey area. Take Jordan Bratton, a buzzmaking artist and producer whose debut single (and first DJBooth feature) resides somewhere between indie, R&B and pop. Tough as it may be to categorize, the cut makes perfect sense in practice. The NYC native’s own atmospheric boardwork, built around a staccato, syncopated set of keyboard chords, sets the mood as he addresses a woman who seems to have done quite a number on his head: “Girl you’re such a riddle / But I can’t get rid of ya.” While there’s nothing flashy about Bratton’s vocals, his artful harmonies and subtly soulful delivery add to the record’s mesmerizing vibe. Interest piqued? You can look forward to more fresh, innovative material on independent debut album The Grey Area, scheduled for release this fall.
