Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne - By Myself

Posted 7 years ago

Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne‘s long, long awaited collaborative album, I Can’t Feel My Face, has been a topic of conversation since the project was first proposed way back in ‘06.  Though the LP remains in limbo, fans’ main concern is simply hearing the music.  In response to Internet leaks, Santana recently offered up the finished versions of several tracks, including the newly-released By Myself.  A hook sampled from Stevie Wonder’s mournful They Won’t Go When I Go and a string-driven instrumental by an unknown producer set the stage for a downbeat cut driven by darkly reflective rhymes.  While Santana’s verses smolder with braggadocio (and feature a few implied jabs at unfaithful colleagues), Weezy comes off as both whimsical and unsettlingly tired as he meditates on his own death.  The combined effect is oddly compelling, and should get listeners even more curious about what other surprises ICFMF holds.  The LP, of course, has no release date, but stay tuned to the Booth for more details if and when they surface.
