Juvenile - Drop That Azz

Can you believe Juvenile’s been in the game for 15 years? Don’t worry if that makes you feel old, because the first single off his new upcoming album Beast Mode (dropping July 6) is a sentiment that’s timeless: Drop That Azz. The production, by C. Smith, features two seemingly opposite elements; club themed instrumentals with a classic Beastie Boys sample. The combination may sound strange, but don’t rush to knock the beat. Once you give it a listen you’ll realize it’s not bad. As for Juvi, Back That Azz Up is what first made him popular, so it would seem like going back to ass shaking club joints is a good way to stay relevant. On the other hand, have you ever heard an old man say inappropriate things that made you feel a little uncomfortable? With lines like “Dancing with you kind of feels like we are having intercourse,” it’s hard for me actually enjoy this song lyrically. Is it time for Juvenile to grow up, or is catchy club music something that will keep him in the game for life?
