Rejuvenation

Eight albums over 15-plus years in the game and you’ve still got the streets hanging on your every syllable? Now that’s what I call Power. Today, New Orleans veteran Juvenile returns to electrify our eardrums with the lead single off album number nine—a cut which finds him collaborating with Mannie Fresh for the first time since parting ways with Cash Money. Perhaps inspired by the Booth-acclaimed remix of Kanye‘s single of the same title, Fresh looks to German electronic group Snap! for sample material, flipping 1990 smash The Power into an head-noddable uptempo backdrop as the New Orleans spitter exults in the trappings of success, crowing “If you ain’t sitting a hundred million you ain’t livin’.” (and cogently observing a few lines later, “Power makes a n*gga show his arrogance”). In between the headliner’s braggadocious verses, Maybach Music general Rick Ross grabs the mic to deliver a highly abridged account of his rise to high-rollerdom: “Born in the ghetto, now a n*gga in mansion.” Does this single leave you feeling fresh and energized? If so, more Rejuvenation awaits on Juvenile’s latest album, set to hit store shelves and online retailers Dec. 3.
