A Day in the Life (Re-Release)

When reader favorite K. Sparks asked online commenters to “Stop stalkin’ me” on the original version of A Day in the Life track Watchin’ Me, the remark sounded like the joke it obviously was. On this remix, the winning entry in a contest held by indie label HiPNOTT Records, producer Kurser shows us just how drastically a beat switch can change a cut’s mood – the blend of ambient synths and chopped vocals he serves up here has a genuinely unsettling, paranoid vibe. Sparks’ densely-packed verses, of course, are just as fresh the second time around, as do the laid-back guest stylings of Californian emcee Chris Young, and frequent Sparks collaborator Julius Francis’ smooth-as-ever hook vocals sound downright haunting over the flipped instrumental. All in all, this reimagining may leave some wishing that Kurser’d work his magic on all the tracks on the project. Well, as it turns out, he is going to remix the entire album – keep it locked for the latest on the forthcoming re-release (coming “soon”). In the meantime, those who haven’t copped the original version of ADitL can do so right here.
