Manic Mondays (#32)

K. Sparks clearly has a lot on his mind—as we’ve seen on reflective records like Purpose and Tattoo, he’s not afraid to delve deeply into serious lyrical topics, be they personal or societal.  Manic Monday number 32 makes clear, though, that the emcee can find a little Sunshine to get him through even the toughest of times.  Created at “a very dark point in [his] life,” this cut finds Sparks joining forces with hook singer Julius Francis to address some of his inner demons, as well as quite a few broader issues.  As the Queens native touches on everything from the difficulties faced by single parents to the plight of soldiers stuck fighting a seemingly endless war, his determined flow, as well as Definition producer Pajozo‘s vibrant, jazz-sampling instrumental, give the record a realistic yet hopeful vibe.  Sparks himself says it best: “this song is GOOD music… so if anyone can’t feel it they must not have a pulse.”
