Though K. Sparks and Pajozo had the table set and the glasses filled for the Thanksgiving release of their Soul Food mixtape, fans are still waiting for dinner to be served; in the artist’s own words, it’s been “pushed back like an old dude’s hairline.” That’s the bad news. The good news is that the Booth favorite’s been thoughtful enough to bring us one last appetizer to enjoy as we wait for the main course. Hey Babe, leak number four off the hotly-anticipated project, finds the headliner spitting game to an enchanting female over Pajozo‘s smooth, lushly-sampled soul boardwork. Sparks rarely delivers straight-up ladies’ jams (Door Knockers is the only one I can remember), but it’s clearly not for lack of ability; here the Queens emcee sounds perfectly at ease, lacing the track with poetic lyrical gems and the occasional bawdy punchline (my favorite, of course, is the “you’re an eight/urinate” pun). Silky-smooth and lyrically on-point, this track is sure to impress Sparks’ many devotees in the Booth – and leave them even hungrier for Soul Food, which is set to hit online retailers “very shortly.”
