Kelly Rowland ft. Lil Wayne - Motivation

Producer:
Jim Jonsin
Album:
Here I Am

From her Destiny’s Child days to the review I wrote for her previous Ms. Kelly album, I’ve heard my fair share of Kelly Rowland. Still, I’m no Rowlandologist, so while I’m sure truly dedicated fans will be brimming with examples in the comments, I can say I don’t remember hearing the woman sound like she does on new single Motivation. Has she done soulful bedroom burners like this before? If not, she has now. Behind the boards Jim Jonsin steps away from his more usual uptempo pop-rap sounds and goes straight r&b (laced with subtle hip-hop hits), while on the back end Lil Wayne slows down the pace and delivers a Single-esque ode to pleasing his woman. But those two superstar men aside, it’s Kelly herself who truly makes this record work, laying down the kind of smooth and sultry vocals that will have ensure an influx of babies named Kelly in nine months. Tell me if I’m going overboard people, but personally speaking, if this doesn’t get Rowland a release date for her upcoming album of the same name, Motivation

Here I Am, I don’t know what will.
