Kendrick Lamar - HiiiPoWeR

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
J. Cole
Album:
#Section80

Like most mentally stable individuals, 2011 XXL Freshman Kendrick Lamar takes rumors of a 2012 apocalypse with a grain of salt the size of a refrigerator. Regardless, he’s not taking any chances – on the off chance the rumors of the world’s imminent end do turn out to be true, the freestyle series alumnus wants to be able to say he went nothing less than HiiiPoWeR in the Earth’s last days. Though I can’t recall ever hearing Lamar not go hard, the steely resolve and unstoppable drive he showcases here are striking nonetheless. Flowing over Roc Nation heavy-hitter J. Cole‘s gritty yet delicate string-sampled production, the Cali repper fights the power tooth and limb, riffing on popular conspiracy theories while invoking late black leaders from Malcolm X and Martin Luther King to Huey Newton and Marcus Garvey. If this powerfully fresh jam leaves you craving more, you won’t have to wait much longer for more new material from this hip-hop revolutionary; Kendrick Lamar’s #Section80 LP has yet to receive a release date, but it’s set to hit the ‘net “very soon.”
