Kid Dre - Bottles In The Air

When a record is titled Bottles in the Air and features boardwork by Akon‘s Konvict Muzik production team, it’s not too difficult to guess what it’s going to sound like, right?  Actually, listeners’ preconceptions are likely to crumble within the first few bars – while this cut has the Konvict Muzik head honcho’s fingerprints all over it, it sounds as if ‘kon may have downed a few cups of coffee before stepping into the studio; the beat is a chaotic jumble of jackhammer hi-hat hits, handclaps, and buzzing synths, and it totally works. Things cool down a little once Kid Dre‘s first verse rolls around, but not for long; fortunately, the Booth newcomer’s raspy vocals and unpredictable flow fit right into the aural bedlam, and the result is an unconventionally catchy debut single that I imagine will be absolutely earsplitting when spun in the clubs.  The newest addition to Konvict‘s roster, Dre is scheduled to release his self-titled debut sometime this summer.
