DJ Lil' Dave
IllVibe Presents: All Together Now

While Kokayi‘s still riding high off the critical acclaim for recent LP Robots & Dinosaurs (featuring Booth debut Chanticleer), the DMV representative’s not resting on his laurels. Today, the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/rapper/producer teams up with beatsmith DJ Lil’ Dave for the latest leak off The Illvibe Collective‘s forthcoming compilation album. DJ Play is a quirky banger, with Dave’s spacey synths, booming bass and syncopated percussion setting an energetically left-of-center vibe as Kokayi indulges in a little left-of-center game-spitting. Though the club-romance theme isn’t a new one, the headliner takes a fresh approach on the mic, demonstrating just how dazzled he is by a certain female in discombobulated verses that hit just about every point on the singing—rapping spectrum. So, has this innovative jam earned a spot on your setlist (or iPod playlist, as the case may be)? If so, you can expect plenty more funky surprises on Illvibe’s All Together Now LP, set to hit store shelves and online retailers in the near future.
