Luck-One - Strange Fruit

Producer:
Samerai
Album:
Fralbum Curse of the Pharoah

One of the most famous protest songs of all time thanks to Billie Holiday’s 1939 rendition, blues/jazz standard Strange Fruit is a poetic and powerful depiction of racial violence in the American South. With his latest single, also titled Strange Fruit, Portland emcee Luck-One puts a 21st Century spin on that classic’s theme, addressing the more subtle mechanisms of social control (consumerism, religion, underfunded public schools) as well as the pervasive abuse of black Americans at the hands of local police. Samerai provides a guitar-laced beat to back the emcee’s bars. For this poignant selection and many more quality cuts, check out Luck’s next project, Fralbum Curse of the Pharaoh, when it hits the ‘net this summer.
