Lupe Fiasco - Animal Pharm

Posted 3 years ago
Producer:
Nigel Godrich
Album:
None (Promo Single)

When Lupe Fiasco‘s at the top of his game, he’s f**king scary. To me, anyway—whereas most artists’ songs are easy to explain in a sentence or two, the prospect of summing up one of the Chi-Town vet’s more cryptic joints is enough to have me shaking in my shoes. Animal Pharm, a promo single premiered yesterday via GoWhereHipHop, is a case in point. Inspired, of course, by George Orwell’s 1945 novel, the record abounds with knotty, allusive wordplay and oblique political commentary. In fact, y’all might just want to check RapGenius in a few months, once the editors have had chance to piece it all together. Fiasco’s multifaceted bars come backed by the stark electronic grooves of Ingenue, a cut off the recent, Nigel Godrich-produced debut set from Atoms for Peace. Animal Pharm isn’t part of a larger project, but fans can, of course keep it locked for more from the always-provocative lyricist—including the latest on his unscheduled fifth full-length, Tetsuo & Youth.
