Lupe Fiasco - Fire

Posted 6 years ago
Producer:
Chris Chandler
Album:
Unreleased

Let me make one thing clear: Fire is not a response to Lupe Fiasco being excluded from MTV’s 10 Hottest MCs list…or at least he claims. Actually, one listen to Fire’s extraordinarily complex production – a mix of Jimi Hendrix’s classic song of the same name– and Lupe’s intricate rhyme scheme and it’s clear that this stellar cut was a long time in the making. Even the genius Lupe couldn’t write lines like, “hatin’s a disease, deadly if you catch it, crabs in a bucket, trying to pull me backwards” that quickly. Still, whether it’s on purpose or not, the timing, title and the fact that Fire won’t be included on his upcoming Lasers album sure feels like a warning to MTV and any other critic that Lupe will gladly burn anyone who underestimates his extraordinary skill. Lasers currently has no set release date, but keep it locked to DJBooth for any updates.
