The love of money may be the root of all evil, but it’s the lack of it that tends to drive people to the worst deeds. And for those who say that it can’t buy happiness, well, lose yours and see how good you feel afterward. On the lead single off his forthcoming street album, making its world premiere in the Booth, Lyriciss offers a little insight into the power of the Almighty Dollar as he chronicles his own neverending quest to Go and Get It. Producer Soulful! departs from his usual, well, soulful style to craft something a little funkier, slicing and dicing a flute-laced sample as the DMV representative sketches out the profound effects that paper—or the lack thereof—can have on one’s professional, social and romantic life: “They say money makes the world go ‘round and I believe it, ‘cause you can turn your whole life ‘round if you receive it / If your checking’s the nicest, and your savings the meanest, a chick’ll drop out of school and onto your penis.” Digging this head-noddable ode to the power of lucre? Lucky for you, the emcee has plenty more to say on the topic; more financially-themed jams await on part two of Lyriciss’ four-part series The Balance: Money EP, dropping in January. In the meantime, why not check out Lyriciss’ last project, the Booth-sponsored The Balance EP?
