Giving songs a new life via remix is as much a part of hip-hop as DJ cuts and braggadocio lyrics. The brand new M-Phazes remix of Coalmine Record’s inaugural single release, The Raw, featuring Saigon, Inspectah Deck and Bekay features all the aforementioned elements and takes things a step further by adding live electric guitar, bringing the beat to that next level.  Adding some fresh new cuts is DJ Blind Boogie, who mixes in some classic ODB on the chorus.  Inspired by the track titles, each emcee takes turns discussing the “rawness” of their talent. While some will cringe at the STD references and Saigon’s homophobic slur, the rhymes are solid and delivered with vigor. The Raw is a part of a forthcoming Coalmine Records release Phazed Out that sees M-Phazes remixing a handful of singles from Coalmine’s catalogue. The project is mixed and arranged by DJ Rhettmatic, featuring Heltah Skeltah, CL Smooth, Emilio Rojas, Skyzoo, Torae and many more and will be released digitally on February 14 (and in hard copy on February 28).
