Gangsta Grillz: The Art of War

In his famous military treatise, The Art of War, Sun Tzu stressed the importance of subtlety and deception, advising generals to “Pretend inferiority and encourage [the enemy’s] arrogance.” By contrast, Maino’s Art of War, advocates a more direct approach: say ‘We Gonna Win’ over and over, till the enemy has no choice but to believe it. On the first leak off his forthcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape, the BK rapper rallies the Maino Nation for a frontal assault on dancefloors everywhere, trumpeting his confidence in his abilities every step of the way. Backed by Scram Jones’ club-ready synth boardwork (sampled from German techno group Zombie Nation’s ‘99 hit, Kernkraft 400), the emcee psychs out the competition with vivid trash-talk: “These n*ggas transparent, I read ‘em like X-rays...” Maino’s clearly got the fighting spirit, but will the bravado he showcases here add up to a victory in the Booth? That, my friends, is for you to decide. Those who like what they’re hearing should stay tuned for the latest on the emcee’s The Art of War mixtape, set to hit the net sometime this fall.
