Update: Click “Listen Now” above to watch Mean Doe Green’s “Thankful” video.

In his Twilight of the Idols, Friedrich Nietzsche described the ideal man as one who “...[says] ‘yes’ to life, even in its strangest and most painful episodes.” Setting aside how pretentious it is bust out a Nietzsche quote in a review of a rap record, my syphilitic German homie could have been describing Sacramento emcee Mean Doe Green. On new album single Thankful, the freestyle alum expresses his gratitude not only for life’s blessings but also for its curses, knowing that his struggles have forged him into a stronger man and artist. Over Alexander Dedov‘s cinematic synth/guitar beat (featuring a sample from Busta Rhymes’ classic Scenario verse), Green proudly recounts the trials and tribulations he’s survived to date, taking time out to acknowledge the ersatz friends and straight-up haters who helped make it all possible. Complete with a guest chorus by Arty Fresha, Thankful is just one of many bangers set for inclusion on Doe’s Shade Proof LP, which has yet to receive a drop date. While you wait, why not check out one (or both) of the artist’s Booth-sponsored 2011 projects,  Hard Hats & Hand Grenades and Black Suits & Shovels?
