Metermaids - Graveyard Shift

9th Wonder
Rooftop Shake

A week or so on the Graveyard Shift, and you’ll never take coffee and No-Doz for granted again. As life-saving as these common remedies can be, though, there are times when you need something a little stronger to prop your eyelids open—-something like this new cut, the lead single off Brooklyn duo The Metermaids’ forthcoming full-length. Dedicated to anyone stuck on their grind while normal folks are catching Zs, this cut is the aural equivalent of a shot of pure adrenaline to the heart. Here, Carolina heavy-hitter 9th Wonder trades in his usual smoothness for something considerably harder-edged, serving up a grimy electric-guitar/breakbeat groove (complete with exhilarating old-school cuts) to back emcees Swell and Sentence as they pay tribute to the unsung heroes of our society—from sanitation engineers (i.e. garbagemen), truck drivers and subway conductors right on down to your garden-variety insomniac. Has this hard-hitting jam given you the burst of energy you need to grind from dusk till dawn? More amped-up bangers await on The Metermaids’ Rooftop Shake LP, due out September 6.
