Though “real hip-hop” is a favorite topic of conversation among underground emcees (and DJBooth.net members, for that matter), few seem to agree on what the phrase actually means.  Virginia rapper Mic Legacy‘s first Booth feature, Radio, suggests an answer to this conundrum: real hip-hop is whatever the individual speaking grew up with. Jay Clyde serves up a fittingly nostalgic instrumental (sampled from Chi-town soul singer Jerry Butler’s Can’t Forget About You, Baby) as Legacy and guest feature Skyzoo hark back to their own versions of the genre’s golden age, name-dropping all the now-legendary artists who helped make them who they are today.  Mic caps the cut off by admitting that, though times are changing, there are still plenty of artists out there doing their forebears proud; thus, his own Radio will remain on.  For more real hip hop—well, let’s just say good hip-hop—grab a copy of Feed Yo Kids when it drops digitally on the 27th.
