The Voice of the Streets

If you visit any local music store or online retailer and look at the “new releases” section, you’ll find projects by Beyoncé, Slim, Ace Hood, Shontelle, and Lil’ Keke.  Some consumers, however might be disappointed not to find Mike Jones’ sophomore album, The Voice of the Streets, which has been delayed until after the New Year.  Still on the grind despite the holdup, Jones remembers his skill as an R&B songwriter for Lil’ Mo and LeToya Luckett, and he draws from this experience on the new single Next To You.  Originally set to be featured on The American Dream (before it was changed from an LP to an EP), Jones adopts a catchy, sing-song flow, rhyming about his woman and how he’s down for her.  Highlighted by J.R. Rotem’s guitar-percussion beat, Next To You has all the pieces in place to strike a chord among crossover audiences.  Let’s just hope the collaborator is willing to show up for the music video this time…
