Mike Schpitz - Going for Broke

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
Maja 7th
Album:
The Prize Package Volume 1

Last we heard from Mike Schpitz, he was boasting about Gettin’ It – “It” being cash – in every way, shape or form imaginable. Today, on the second of four premieres off his forthcoming mixtape, the Kansan emcee’s Going for Broke with nothing to his name but “a dollar and a dream.” Whatever the truth may be (I’m guessing it lies somewhere in between), it’d be a shame to let a little self-contradiction hamper your enjoyment of a record this fresh. Maja 7th sets a triumphant mood on the production tip, flipping Brighter Side of Darkness’ soul classic I’ve Got a Love Jones for You into a beat befitting “that first joint you make after you get on.” Schpitz, for his part, spits like an artist on the cusp of greatness; in verses peppered with references to rap heavyweights, the emcee acknowledges his self-doubt, but expresses confidence that the momentum he’s built up will carry him over the edge – you can “bet your paycheck” on it. Fans will be able to experience the latest chapter in Schpitz’ ascent to stardom on March 30, when his Booth-sponsored The Prize Package Volume 1 LP hits our mixtape page for free streaming and download.
