Miley Cyrus‘s inaugural twerking attempt at the VMAs may have earned mixed (to put it charitably) reviews, but she’s evidently unfazed by the negative feedback. On the highly-anticipated lead single off superproducer Mike WiLL Made It‘s Interscope debut, she continues to insinuate herself into the world of hip-hop, this time trying her hand at rapping. In addition to an opening verse and hook from Hannah Montana, the record features bars from two considerably more seasoned rhymesayers. Frequent Mike WiLL collaborators Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J jump on the headliner’s instrumental, a bass-heavy club groove centered around a wobbly synth loop, to deliver turnt-up middle and closing 16s. What do you think, readers: does 23 bode well for the beatsmith’s first major-label LP? If you’re leaning toward the affirmative, then keep it locked for further singles leading up to the set’s as yet-unscheduled release to record stores and online retailers.
