Mikkey Halsted - Obamanomics
With election season looming, it’s right around this time that people start to compare things now to how they were four, eight, even 20 years ago. Chicago emcee Mikkey Halsted is familiar with this discussion trend, fittingly touching on the subject on his latest record Obamanomics. Halsted says it best on the song’s hook as he raps,”The more things change, the more that they same name. It’s Obamanomics.” Rather than a critique of the president,Obamanomics comes across as more of a commentary on society as a whole. The record isn’t all doom and despair, though, as the rapper does go on to highlight several prouder moments including the troops coming back home and Obama’s status as the country’s first African-American President. Noted producer and fellow Windu City resident No I.D. handles the production end of Obamanomics, which is an intoxicating mix of strings and keys. Remind yourself that this record, and many more quality tunes, will be featured on Halsted’s forthcoming Castro mixtape, which is due out on August 13.
