With the official start of summer just a couple days away, there’s no time like the present to get into the carefree mindset that personifies the season. Enter former Rihanna collaborator Mikky Ekko and his new single Kids - because what embodies “carefree” like the youth? And with a chorus that chants “Kids are gonna do what they want!” you can bet it’s going to resonate. Producers Benny Blanco and John Hill layer an ambitious bassline, steady percussion and spurts of instrumentation that burst into a triumphant sound and drives home the catharsis of throwing caution to the wind. Mikky’s vocals ride the ebb and flow, thus creating a song that gets under your skin in the best way imaginable. Check out Mikky’s earlier DJBooth feature, Pull Me Down, if you dig his sound, and forge ahead into summer with this tune at the forefront of your summertime consciousness.
