As if previously-leaked cuts The Make Believer (w/ Tanya Morgan) and Deer Mama (w/ Yelawolf) weren’t enough to get listeners buzzing about SMKA and their forthcoming street album, the up-and-coming production duo has returned to our front page with an even bigger collaborative cut. Making its exclusive world premiere right here in the Booth, third and final leak P.O.N. (Pursuit of Nappiness) features none other than Southern-rap heavyweights Nappy Roots. Backed by SMKA‘s upbeat, strikingly pretty piano-led instrumental (anyone recognize that sample?), Skinny Deville, B. Stille, Ron Clutch, Big V and Fish Scales teach us a lesson on the value of hard work and persistence, advising fellow dreamers “If you don’t succeed, try, try again.” With a sage message and some unconventionally fresh boardwork, this meditation on the artistic grind is a cut above the rest.
