The Sinner & the Winner

You know what they say: Sticks & Stones can break your bones, but Weed & Bongs... um… get you high? OK, nobody actually says that. While I couldn’t tell you how those items relate to one another, you can rest assured that it all makes sense to Neako, who’s made them the subject of his latest single. Inspired by a line from M.I.A.‘s Paper Planes, this hazy cut finds the Jersey native (and freestyle series alumnus) doing double duty on the mic and behind the boards, cooking up a pensive, piano-led backdrop for his own blunted reflections on women, music and living dangerously: “What I did today, I never did before and never will again / That’s how I plan to live.” Joining Neako on the back end is up-and-coming emcee Nasa (not to be confused with this N.A.S.A – or, for that matter, the actual NASA), who brings proceedings to a close with some less cerebral, but equally entertaining reflections on the nightlife. Like what you’re hearing? More left-of-center freshness awaits on Neako’s Booth-sponsored The Sinner & the Winner street album, set to hit our mixtape page for free streaming and download February 8.
