Nelly Furtado ft. Nas - Something

Posted 4 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Salaam-Remi
Album:
The Spirit Indestructible

Way back in ‘94, on Illmatic inclusion Street Dreams, Nas (quoting the Eurythmics) cannily observed, “Everybody’s looking for something.” At the very moment the Queensbridge hopeful penned those lines, a 16-year-old Vancouver native named Nelly Furtado was busy honing her instrumental and vocal skills in a house in Vancouver, British Columbia. Neither had any idea that nearly two decades later, in fulfillment of ancient hip-hop prophecy (hey, 18 years is a millennium in rap time), the budding artists would both find what they sought on Something, the latest single off the latter’s fifth studio album. On this fateful jam, Salaam Remi‘s syncopated, hip-swiveling grooves set the mood as the Geffen Records pop songstress regales a lucky guy with purred come-ons. Playing the man in question, Nas responds to her advances in a suave, high-rolling-yet-hood closing verse. (He also admits to writing his illest rhymes on an easel—who knew?) Time to weigh in, Booth readers: is Something exactly what you’ve been looking for all these years? If so, you won’t want to miss the rest of what Furtado has in store on The Spirit Indestructible, set to drop June 19, via Geffen Records.
