Nephew ft. Smoke DZA & Killa Kyleon - Hustler’s Prayer

Posted 4 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Big K.R.I.T.
Album:
Sticks N Stones

When you make your introduction to The DJBooth community by moving an entire Kilo of that raw it’s going to be hard to top yourself – unless you’re Nephew. A Jacksonville hustler turned street poet who’s also Cinematic Music’s latest addition, on his latest offering Nephew’s so far gone all we can do is offer him a Hustler’s Prayer. Producer Big K.R.I.T. (perhaps you’ve heard of him) lays a Biggie sample over a heavily stringed beat to give Prayer its wings, allowing the headliner to swoop in with narratively driven bars about his realer than real past: “So many morning I woke up with the sick face / CO calling chow time, labeled as an inmate.” It’s a sentiment shared by “kush god” Smoke DZA and Texas-sized rapper Killa Kyleon in their respective verses, transforming a single man’s prayer into a group hymn in the process. If this one makes you drop to your knees and bask in the glory of dope rap you’ll definitely want to cop Nephew’s upcoming Sticks N’Stones album, dropping December 6 right here on The DJBooth.
