Nikki Lynette ft. Mickey Factz - Glory Box [Premiere]

Posted 6 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Nikki Lynette and Matt Hennessy
Album:
Roses N' Guns

I find Nikki Lynette fascinating. Her style’s unique enough to get some major attention, but not so unique that she’s dismissed as completely odd. In other words, she’s in a musical sweet spot – she can take risks and avoid (most) criticism because her creativity will always be in demand. With that in mind, I present her new track Glory Box (DJBooth world premiere!), a jazzed-up cover of Portishead’s 1994 song of the same name and a prime example of why Nikki is blowing up right now. After Nothing to Worry About and Beneath My City, it’s already starting to feel like she can do no wrong. Assisted by Mickey Factz, who is apparently so cool the KKK want to hang out with him (not sure about that one, Mickey), Lynette hits the ground running with a Left Eye-esque verse and a smooth transition into her deeply soulful vocals. As far as the beat is concerned; there’s obviously a reason she and producer Matt Hennessy work together so frequently. Glory Box will be featured on Lynette’s album Roses N’ Guns, dropping on your favorite site – that’d be DJBooth.net – on May 18.
