Nino Bless ft. Johnny Cash - God’ll Cut You Down

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
Engineer
Album:
A B*tch Named Karma

Though classic country and modern hip-hop are two genres not typically found on the same iPod, it should come as no surprise that Nino Bless considers Johnny Cash an all-time fave, and a major inspiration for his own work; as our own DJ Z put it last May, when Marky stepped into the Booth with his own Cash-sampled cut, the man was “a real OG.” On inaugural mixtape leak God’ll Cut You Down, Bless channels the Man in Black as he takes aim at the snake-oil salesman who profit off a vulnerable public. Engineer mans the boards, flipping a sample from the similarly-titled God’s Gonna Cut You Down as the Brooklyn rapper skewers everyone from dime-a-dozen pimps and drug-dealers to white-collar crooks and even Vatican officials. Of course, Nino will be the first to admit he’s committed his own share of sins; on the back, he asks the Lord’s forgiveness for “the women I’ve corrupted… all the stuff that I’ve lusted over with no reluctance, all the folks that I’ve let down and failed them when they trusted.” Like what you’re hearing? More dark, introspective jams await on Bless’ A B*tch Named Karma mixtape, due out in March.
