Novel - Broken Record

Producer:
Novel
Album:
Calligraphy

As I said on his DJBooth-hosted Legato Blues Mixtape, and What If, and Red Lights, and State of Loneliness and the 418 other DJBooth approved records he’s dropped, singer/rapper/producer Novel is one of the game’s brightest talents. Think all that praise has me sounding like a Broken Record? Blame Novel, the man just doesn’t miss. On his new leak the L.A. representer needs to get a message across to a certain female, and since the message isn’t sinking in, he’ll just have to repeat himself like that aforementioned Broken Record. Thankfully repetition never sounded so good, as Novel overlays a light piano sample with a clapping percussion line and layers of sound to create a strong but still beautiful record, sealing the deal with some of his trademark raspy vocals and fearlessly honest lyrics. Thanks to Novel, breaking up just got a little easier; don’t bother with any explanations, just throw this on and walk away. Broken Record is set to appear on the long-awaited new album Calligraphy, set to drop on…we’ll just have to keep waiting for a solid release date.
