Novel - Get You High

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
Mike Snow
Album:
Grant Me Serenity

Let’s start this post with a riddle: what’s the best time to listen to new music from Novel? Trick question, there’s never a bad time to listen to new Novel. With his DJBooth-approved Vanilla Sky still large in the rearview the L.A.-based producer/rapper/singer is right back at it with Get You High, the first release off his upcoming free album Grant Me Serenity. All of Serentiy’s offerings will find Novel flipping records that influence him outside of rap and R&B and sure enough High takes Swedish indie pop band Mike Snow’s Animal and only slightly tweaks it signature, echoing guitar riffs to head nodding effect. Add in sultry lyrics and some smooth crooning from the Freestyle Series alum that still manage to keep the original’s catchy bounce and you’ve got a audio narcotic far more powerful than any drug. Ok, so maybe it’s not that strong, there’s no need to call the DEA, but those finding themselves addicted to Novel’s unique sound will want to cop the upcoming Grant Me Serenity when it drops sometime in the near future. Hopefully.
