OnCue - Crashing Down

Cuey Sings the Blues

Previously heard celebrating his childhood alongside fellow Connecticut representative Chris Webby, OnCue once again reaches to the ‘90s for inspiration on his first solo feature, mixtape leak Crashing Down. Here, producer AJisReal‘s sample of the Dave Matthews Band’s ‘96 single, Crash Into Me, sets the stage for a B.o.B-esque, flight-themed meditation on success and the artistic grind. While the artist’s ambition is palpable, the Brooklyn resident makes clear that it isn’t financial security or status he’s after, but simply the opportunity to reach people through music: “And I don’t give a sh*t if I sign to a label, as long as I’m able to be the one that makes you, an alley for all of you to escape to…” An admirable attitude, to be sure, but does OnCue have the skills to soar above the competition? I’ll leave that one for you to decide. If you’re digging this introspective joint, you can hear OnCue flip more rock/indie/electro cuts of yesterday and today on his Cuey Sings the Blues mixtape, scheduled to hit the ‘net “soon.”
