Artist: Onra
Track: The One
Producer: Onra
Album: Long Distance

Last week, Slum Village stepped up into the Booth with Faster, a reader-acclaimed single which found the Motown vets exploring a more upbeat, pop-appealing sound than ever before. Today, group member T3 continues that streak of aural experimentation, teaming up with Booth newcomer Onra on the Parisian producer’s latest album leak. Here, a uniquely catchy blend of chopped synth grooves, punchy percussion, and submerged vocal samples pulses in the background as T3 addresses an ex-girlfriend he now knows could have been The One, expressing remorse regarding the lies and infidelities that derailed their relationship way back when “I wish I had a time machine like McFly, ‘cause I never would’ve told those lies, I never would’ve had those chicks in my ride…” Despite the downbeat lyrical theme, the combo of the emcee’s to-the-point rhymes and Onra’s cutting edge (but retro-informed) production stylings makes for a left-field banger sure to get heads nodding.
