Pittsburgh Slim - Champagne

Nolita Nights Mixtape

A year and a half before Asher Roth first declared his love for the college life, another young Caucasian from Pennsylvania kicked off his career with a similarly-themed jam; despite scoring a viral hit with electro-hop single Girls Kiss Girls Pittsburgh Slim‘s debut EP was not as successful as the Def Jam brass had hoped, and he was recently dropped from the label.  With newly-released mixtape single Champagne, the rapper’s set out to prove that the execs made a big mistake in letting him go.  This cut is squarely aimed at the club, but Slim doesn’t neglect to remind listeners of his KRS-One and Guru influences (just in case anyone thought he was still a gimmick rapper).  One thing hasn’t changed from back in the day: most of the appeal comes from the beat.  In this case, Whiteleaf Productions steal the show with an electric guitar-driven beat and a sample from Biggie‘s Juicy.  Has Pittsburgh Slim taken his game to the next level since parting ways with Def Jam? Find out later this month, when his Nolita Nights mixtape hits the ‘net.
