Playboy Tre - Care After Me

Posted 4 years ago

To quote pop artist and occasional philosopher Andy Warhol, “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” Well aware of the importance of maintaining one’s forward momentum without getting mired in the past, Playboy Tre takes his latest mixtape single as an opportunity to say some final goodbyes to those who have passed on, before focusing his attention fully on the grind that lies ahead. Released along with visuals courtesy of First Impressions Studio, Care After Me finds beatsmith Homebwoi flipping ‘70s funk/soul hitmakers L.T.D.‘s Stranger into a poignant backdrop for the headliner’s wistful bars. After raising a toast to the good times (“This is for them nights we came in the crib drunk as f*ck stumblin’...”) the rhymesayer delves into more personal territory, honoring the memory of a childhood friend who recently passed away and wishing his grandparents were still around to meet his unborn son. Rather than dwelling on what’s done, however, he ends the song by resolving to work even harder to put his loved ones in a better place: “When I’m gone, I wanna make sure they’re still taken care of.” If this introspective jam struck a chord, you can look forward to more illuminating cuts on Tre’s Liquor Store Mascot 2: Patron & Instrumentals tape, due out later this month.
